happy friday!

This is just ridiculous now.

Some scary profiles to ponder this H'ween weekend.

PSA: some really nice safety tips in here for the older folks in your life.

Sweet Jeebus, I'm going back to bed.  No, wait, NOW I'm going back to bed. Goodness.

Awesome. If only it were getting local news coverage.

Fzcked SCOTUS. And more.

Flowchartz!

Awesome Science!

thursday!

American Tealiban: one, two, three

Nice fundie funding chart here.

Sexism: because isn't not like single parents aren't OVERWHELMINGLY female, right? There's totally no s1ut-punishing features-not-bugs built into a proposal like that. Related "no sexism here, no sir" here.

What.the.fzck. Seriously, how is a person like that even to be tolerated in polite company, let alone be allowed to run for public offfice? I'm stunned.

This is just weird.

On the merits of ideological party purity. Related here.

Yeah...

Uh, what?

Not business as usual. Related here.

Are you into The Larry Sanders Show? I've never seen it but I'm sorta tempted by the deal.

wednesday!

Rand Paul is now officially my least favorite candidate in this cycle.

Normally I'd make some sort of motherfzcking snakes joke, but holy sh1t.

That was *absolutely* treasonous, so shut your holes, Trib editors.

UGH: one, two, three

Clarified.

If you tax Christians, they'll have less money to give to their churches. If that argument's not an admission that organized religions are Ponzi schemes, I don't know what is.

Clarence Thomas sounds like an absolute pig. More ladies on the SCOTUS, pls.

Our urban nation.

There are no happy poets.

TNC on the poverty culture.

Red State, Blue State: one, two

I dunno, Illinois doesn't really do "smart" that well.

Well how 'bout that?

Love these.

thursday!

The round up's taking a couple of days off!!

Oh Twitter, with your rascally, truncated URLs....

This is exactly what I was trying to say the other day about man-pants.

I'm rocking a purple sweater today.

I welcome the coming revolution. Let's all sing the Internationale!

I'm sold, it's going on the reading list.

This is....well, I'm not sure what. It's weird though.

Do not mess with the Interwebs, Gene Simmons, or you will get schooled.

On top of all the usual outrage I have for these things, this is just really disrespectful. If a Dem had tried to do this to Bush during the height of the war or whatever, they'd be shamed out of public life.

Rachael Ray hates unicorns. What?

Delightful.

Genius.

This is awesome and DC and Marvel need to jump on the idea train. Wear them to the Batpool!

WTF, NPR? Seriously disappointing.

Illinois loves its servicemembers, kindly shove your propaganda.

This is seriously inexcusable even if it's a little funny.

thursday!

Rand Paul doesn't think I'm a person with rights.

Sad, and I'm certainly not holding my breath for Haley Barbour to "do the right thing."

This doesn't seem all that bad, but I suppose if I were Bob Saget I'd be annoyed too.

Hey, *I* like Science! And lasers!

The political glamocracy. I'd argue you see this effect most strongly amongst first-time candidates; once you're an incumbent, the incumbency itself is your greatest asset. I don't think anyone would argue that Robert Byrd was a good looking dude for the last 40 years or so of his life.

Parent of the Day.

Well played, sir.

I think the Michael Ian Black joke is hilarious. Context is king.

Do not want.

Slooooooooooooooooooooooths... (and bonus bebeh sloth)

Funny how that works.

Prescience defined.

File Under: Things That Make You Wish You Didn't Have Eyes

I'm somewhat divided on how the payout shakes out on this. In one sense, the kids/parents/schools could really use that money and the lawyer's a greedy d-bag, but on the other hand, the case handles some relatively uncharted legal territory and the lawyer(s) probably did put a good bit of time into the case. Anybody else have an opinion?

THIS, pls.

A highly subjective subject, but nonetheless: *maybe* five of these songs belong on the list. Where is this (NSFW)? It's totally the bookend to "Song for the Dumped"! And country-western music isn't represented at all...

Whoa.

Totally didn't realize this was a thing until the very end of the episode. Effing genius.

Um...I think you are thinking of something else. Maybe. I hope.

What.the.fzck. Seriously, what did women ever do to you people to make you hate them so much?

No, and it would hilari-horrible to watch him try.

monday!

I have a bunch of green tomatoes I'm considering for a couple of new things, but I'm way intrigued by this, mainly just to find out what the end product tastes like.

RIP Solomon Burke.

1. WOW, 2. Bill Maher's having *quite* the splashy new season. Use that power wisely, friend.

Disappointing but not entirely surprising.

Oh double standards, what would my blood pressure be without you?

happy friday!

Happy Fall, Fools!

Misogyny 2.0.

CoC shenanigans.

John McCain: D-bag.

"Second-class religions" may be forthcoming in CA.

Disappointing.

I love this. If I used it as a template for a job description at our place, bullet points would include--answering an incoming call, scheduling a post op appointment, and completing paperwork for DME at the same time, being yelled at for not correctly following a policy that was provoked by an incident, created and put in place that morning or may not in fact exist at all, and wondering if a career bagging groceries could be considered a "lateral move."

thursday!

Free Plug: Tom and I are newly in love with O'Connor's Deli.  If you are anywhere near the place and need a bite, particularly if you're in the mood for soup, eat there or you're a jerk. Each of the soups I've had (the vegetable, the Irish Cheddar Potato, and the Chicken Enchilada) have been surprisingly good. I am convinced that they make their own stock and they're doing something out of the ordinary with it, because all of the selections are so intensely flavorful. Portions are generous; the soup and half-sandwich combo is difficult for me to finish (and the Edison Park sandwich with turkey and ham rocks). At this point, O'Connor's is a serious contender to supplant Perry's in the top position of the Home Delivery Foodlympics, is what I'm saying.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Yup.

This is horsesh1t. Gods I hate people.

WTF

Really useful encapsulation of the Social Security issue.

Those crazy kids today, with their spaghetti tacos and their rock and/or roll music....

I am not a Shakespeare purist by any means, but I am a wee bit skeptical about rebooting the Tempest with a lady Prospero, even if it is Helen Mirren.

Excellent idea. I am, for the moment, sad I am not in college right now just so I could inflict that on someone.

And speaking of surreal, I am not sure I approve of this.

What a weird thing to do. I like that Franzen was totally cool about it.

This is insanity.
